Leon G. Noland

JOPLIN, Mo. — Leon G. Noland, age 86, of Joplin, Mo., went home to be with the Lord at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at National Health Care of Joplin following a 10 month illness.

Leon was born Aug. 17, 1927, near Union City, Madison County, Ky. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married Joe Ann Bassman on Dec. 2, 1951, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2009. Leon moved to Joplin in 1953 and established Nolands Auto Trim. He was active in the business for the next 60 years. He was a longtime Southern Baptist, serving as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher at several churches over the years. He was a member of the Joplin Roadrunners and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Noland and wife, Tracy, Loma Linda and Tom Noland and wife, Debbie, Carterville; one sister, Ilene Van Winkle and husband, Earl, Berea, Ky.; four grandchildren, Whitney Messer and husband, Jeff, Miranda Noland, Zachary Noland and Joshua Noland; and two great-grandchildren, Grayer and Cole Messer. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Barnet and Margaret Noland; a brother, Marshall Noland; and a sister, Oneida Douglas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wellspring Church, north of Webb City, where Leon was a member, with Pastors Scott Smith and Phil Mehrens officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service time at the Church.  Private family burial will be Monday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellspring Church Building Fund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
