JOPLIN, Mo. —
Mattie Y. Chelette, age 92, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Mattie Young Chelette was born July 7, 1920, in Granberry, Louisiana. She was the 8th of 12 children of G.O. And Hulda Young.
Mattie married Herman E. Chelette, the love of her life, on Dec. 24, 1938. They had two children, Herman E. Jr. (Linda) and Pamela S. Findley (Bob). They lived in Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Alabama and Texas and moved back to Missouri to be near family in 2008. Everywhere they lived they made lifelong friends and touched lives forever through their churches, their neighborhoods and family.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, her parents and her siblings, Virgie Reed, Vester Young, Norman Young, B.G. Young, Gussie Crawford, Effie Bono, Ocie Young and Calvin Young. Besides her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Edward (Angela) Chelette, Robert (Jackie) Chelette, Terri (Roger) Doman and Renae Findley. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Bronwyn, Caitlin and Jared Chelette and Elizabeth and R.J. Doman. Other survivors include sisters, Loyce Frazier, Cathy (Victor) Pecorino and Amy Word. Surviving in-laws include Evana Young, Jo Young, Janice (Bob) Welch and Kenneth (Frances) Chelette. Also surviving are close friends, Chuck and Alice McCann, Jay and Rose Golden and Pat and Pam McKinley, all of Dallas, Texas.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Neal Ball, Minister, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the First Baptist Church of Richardson, Texas, or to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the mortuary.
