TUCSON, AZ —
Alice Marie Smith passed away on Nov. 9, 2012, at the age of 72, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1940, in Joplin, Mo., to Florence Stiles Smith and Harold William Smith. She lived in Joplin most of her life and worked for many years at Fred & Red's. Alice was a resident of the Greenbrier Nursing Home at the time of the May 22nd tornado in 2011. After recovering from her injuries, she relocated to Tucson, Ariz., to be near her daughter.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Judith Smith Alway; and her brother, Clyde H. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Martin, of Tucson; her son, Jeffrey Martin, of Webb City; her sister, Madelene Smith Diamond, of Gaithersburg, Md.; six nieces; four nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Alice was cremated in Tucson and her remains will be returned to Joplin. A graveside memorial service will be conducted in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
