Wilbur "Bub" Nicely

JOPLIN, Mo. — 


Wilbur L. "Bub" Nicely, age 90, Joplin, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at his home after an illness.
Bub was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Stella, Mo., to the late Lon Nicely and Atty Lamberson Nicely. He had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He graduated from Fairview, Mo. High School in 1942. He worked at Eagle Picher Industries in the Couples Division for several years before he retired in the mid 1970s. He was a member of Spring City Church of Christ. Bub was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 534.
Bub loved his family very much. He was particularly fond of his "pup". He attended the Fairview class reunion every year and was the last remaining out of the original 14 that he had graduated with.  
He married Allene E. McKissick Brown on June 12, 1978, in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1996.  
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian and Gladys; one brother, Dick; and one nephew, Rex Brattin.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Chester, Melanee Grooms and Sherry Santana, all of Joplin; six grandchildren, Carrie Jacobs, Allison Chester, Julianne Hans, Matthew Grooms, Christopher Muse and Dustin Muse; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces, Patricia Collins and Sheila Packwood; four great nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Mike, Rob and Lisa; and four great great nieces and nephews.
Bub has been taken for cremation.  
A memorial visitation is planned for Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
