Beverly "Lorene" Sage

JOPLIN, Mo. — Lorene was born on May 10, 1922, to Roy and Edith Oschenbein. Roy was a contractor working on roads in Springfield, Mo., when Lorene was born there. Harry Oschenbein, Lorene's grandfather owned a grocery store in Joplin, Mo. Roy and Edith took over the grocery store located at 1462 Perkins, where Lorene and her sister, June, grew up.

Lorene attended Eagle Pitcher grade school, North Junior High and Joplin High School, graduating in 1939.  Lorene worked at Newmans Department Store in Joplin.

While attending Joplin High School, she met the love of her life, Louis A. Sage.  Lorene and Louis were married in July of 1941. During World War II when Louis, a Lt. in the US Air Force, was stationed in various locations, Lorene traveled with him. Lorene and Louis had four children, Sherry Sage George (deceased), Louis Sage Jr. (deceased), Les Sage and Allen Sage, both of Joplin. Lorene was blessed with six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who visited her often.

Les and Peggy Sage gave her three granddaughters,  Rachel and her husband, of Seattle, Wash., Amy and her husband, of Park City, Utah and Abigail, currently of Corvallis, Ore.

Allen and Christine Sage gave her two grandsons and a granddaughter, David passed away in 2012, Justin and his family, of Bentonville, Ark., Jenny and her family, of Joplin. Lorene also counted among her blessings seven great-grandchildren.

Lorene had been a member and Sunday school teacher at Villa Heights Christian Church. Later in life, Lorene became acquainted with the Christadelphians (Brethren in Christ).  Over the last 45 years, she faithfully attended church services and mid-week bible classes.  She was particularly fond of attending Adult Bible Schools and seminars held at various Colleges and Universities in United States and Canada.

Lorene was an antiques dealer and collector. Many would marvel at her collection of antique furniture, dolls and postcards, commenting that the interior of her home looked like an antiques museum. Lorene maintained booths at Connies Antiques Shop and South Side Antiques. Another passion of Lorenes was China painting. After years of practice, she became accomplished at creating beautiful portraits and scenes on china.

Lorene miraculously survived the EF-5 tornado which hit Joplin in May of 2011. However, because the storm severely damaged her home, Lorene moved to Spring River Christian Village, where she resided in an assisted living apartment. During the last few months of her life, she became a resident of the National Health Care facility in south Joplin.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her daughter, Sherry; her sister, June; and one grandson David. Lorene was 91 years old and will be missed by her family, church members and many, many friends.

The family will receive visitors at Parker Mortuary on Friday, June 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will be private.

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN MOM!
