JOPLIN, Mo. —
James Maurice "Morey" Hyder, age 97, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, after a short illness while staying at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jim was born in Kansas City, Mo. in 1916, and married Virginia Norris in 1934. They moved to Joplin in 1954, where Mr. Hyder began his architectural mill working business. After retirement he began a second career repairing lawn mowers. For many years Jim was active in the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed dancing, designing antique reproduction furniture, making clocks, traveling and spending time at Grand Lake with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and two sisters, Olivia and Louise.
James is survived by his four children, Marsha McChan and Jim Hyder Jr., both of Joplin, Phillip Hyder and wife, Delores, of Sutherland, Va., and Michele Newell and husband, Pinkney, of Kansas City; as well as 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 1 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.
