Lee Larimore

JOPLIN, Mo. — Leland Kenneth "Lee" Larimore, age 46, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lee was born Dec. 28, 1966, in Joplin. He attended Joplin Schools, graduated from Parkwood High School in 1985 and then Missouri Southern State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1989. He worked in sales all his life, and had a very successful career as a salesman and an entrepreneur, but was always very humble about his many accomplishments.

Lee was a decorated golfer and bowler, dominating both sports over the course of his life. In golf, he was a seven-time Joplin City Champion, won three Briarbrook Invitationals, and at one point, won seven tournaments during one year. Larimore was the Missouri State Lefthanders Champion, a member of multiple Horton Smith teams and was named the Michelob Golfer of the Year seven times. He shot a hole in one, won numerous local events, and was the youngest person to be inducted into the Joplin Golf Hall of Fame. He was also an avid bowler, rolling three perfect-300 games and another 299.

Survivors include his wife, Sonya, whom he married Friday, June 7, 2013; his children, Jordan Larimore and fiancé, Lakin Adams and Kenzie Larimore, both of Joplin; step-children, Zach Fort and Trey Fort, of Carl Junction; parents, Dr. Keith Larimore and Sherry Larimore, of Overland Park, Kan.; sister, Johnna Tupper and husband, Jeff, of Overland Park; brother, Larry Larimore and wife. Pamela, of Carl Junction; nephews, Tony Sfortunato, of Carl Junction, Jacob Tupper and Jaxon Tupper, of Overland Park; maternal aunt, Delilah Petrus and husband, Jim, of Killeen, Texas; and the childrens mother, Julie Hendren of Joplin.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 15, at Briarbrook Country Club with family and friends officiating, and a celebration of life followed at Briarbrook Country Club.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Junior Golf Program of the Joplin Golf Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
