NEOSHO, Mo. —
Howard J. Hopkins, 89, Neosho, Mo., entered into rest on June 20, 2013, at Seneca House, Seneca, Mo., following an illness.
He was born May 4, 1924, in Craig County, Okla., to Albert and Ova (Smith) Hopkins.
Howard came to Neosho from Oklahoma in 1928, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a printer for the Joplin Globe from 1958 until 1986. He then retired to the home he built himself using limestone he handpicked. He was a member of Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ.
Howard married Erna Anna Weber on Oct. 21, 1948, in Staubing, Germany. She preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2007.
He is survived by four children, Cynthia Hopkins, of Mount Pleasant, Wis., Dennis Hopkins and companion, Pamela Vorhees, of Neosho, Sandra Craig and husband, Scott, of Kansas City, Kan., and David Hopkins and wife, Kelli, of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Julie Harris Simon, of Boca Raton, Fla., Jeremy Harris, of Phoenix, Ariz., Benjamin Harris Hopkins, of Racine, Wis., Andrew and wife, Claudia Craig, of Overbrook, Kan., and Jacqueline Craig Suptic, of Overland Park; and great-grandchildren, Rileigh Smith-Hopkins, Harper Smith-Hopkins, Gabriel Suptic, Reagan Craig, Thatcher Craig and Frances Craig. Along with his parents and wife, Howard is preceded in death by a brother, Otis Hopkins; sister, Ruby Winchester; grandson-in-law, Don Simon; great-granddaughter, Blessed Craig; nieces, Linda Winchester, Carole Denefrio, Kathryn McCay Danner; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Winchester, Pat Denefrio and LeRoy Allison.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Rocketdyne Rd. Church of Christ. Interment will be in Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery, Neosho, with full Military Honors; Denny Kruse officiating. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, and visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m.
