Harlan R. Stinson

LEAVENWORTH, KS —

Harlan R. Stinson, 93, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013.

Harlan was born at home on March 22, 1919, in Wentworth, Mo., to Albert Ray and Adah Lucinda Stinson.  

Harlan was married to Kathleen Dorothy Anderson, of Wentworth, Mo., from Dec. 24, 1941, until her death in 1997. On Aug. 29, 2004, he married Enid Tankersley Morton, of Leavenworth.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, of Leavenworth, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, an Elder and choir member.

Harlan retired from civil service work in the mid 1980s and then worked with a friend for 13 years, doing home repair and construction. He worked with Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed going on working mission trips, including his favorite trip to Honduras in 1992, to help build a community center. He also did trips in the U.S. to help with the construction of other Christian Churches.

He fulfilled his lifelong dream of traveling to Israel in the mid 1990s.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Enid; two daughters, Kay (Matlock) Maness, Lansing, Kan., and Donna Langley, Prairie Village, Kan.; three grandchildren, Debbie and her husband, Todd Seaman, Jefferson City, Mo., Cappi and her husband, Tony Criscione, Gladstone, Mo., and Joe Langley, Prairie Village, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Brittney and Dannyelle Seaman; and one sister, Adalee Vaughn, of Halsted, Kan. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

There will be a visitation at the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Mo., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, with graveside service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12.
