JAY, OK —
Mr. Paul Eugene Bowles, 66, of Jay, Okla., departed this life on Sunday evening, Feb. 10, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Mo., after a sudden illness, with his loving family at his side.
Paul entered this life on July 30, 1946, in Maysville, Ark., born to the late Byron Fred and Ida Irene (Durham) Bowles. He was raised in Jay, and was a 1964 graduate of Jay High School. He received his bachelors and masters degree in education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.
On May 27, 1967, in Jay, he was united in marriage to Caroline Elizabeth Holcombe and to this union a son and daughter were born.
Paul taught school for a total of 35 years, two years at Colcord and 33 years for the Jay School District. He was a longtime faithful member of the Jay First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, youth Sunday school teacher, sang in the praise team and helped with Awanas. He enjoyed spending countless hours with his grandchildren, playing his guitar and singing, hunting and raising cattle.
His parents and one brother, Phillip Bowles, preceded him in death.
Paul is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Bowles, of the home; one son, Dr. Randy Bowles and wife, Melissa, of Webb City, Mo.; a daughter, Kristy Chappel and husband, Rob, of Carl Junction, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Haley Munch, Nolan Munch, Audrey Bowles, Kergan Chappel, Baron Chappel, Brett Chappel and Kasey Chappel; a brother, James Bowles and wife, Mary, of Tulsa, Okla.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and numerous friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowles are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the First Baptist Church in Jay, with Brother Johnnie Faught officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Randy Bowles, Rob Chappel, Kergan Chappel, Baron Chappel and Nolan Munch. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay.
