GALENA, Kan. —
GALENA, Kan. - Onis Tillman, Jr, age 81, died at 6:01 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital following a long illness.
Onis was born May 26, 1931, in Cherokee County, Kan., to Onis Sr. and Josephine (Tracy) Tillman. He was a lifelong resident, of Cherokee County and attended school in Columbus, Kan.
Onis was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U,S, Army from 1952 to 1954. He as a lifetime member of the VFW Post 15017 and the NRA. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in 1986, after 31 years of service. He loved to hunt and fish.
He married Elaine Sizemore on Nov. 21, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; one son, Norman (and Melinda) Tillman, Baxter Springs, Kan.; three grandsons, Aaron (and Tabitha) Tillman, Galena, Kan., James (and Brittney) Tillman, Baxter Springs, and Ryan Tillman, Joplin, Mo.; six great-grandsons; and one sister, Shirley Swart, Girard, Kan. Onis thought the world of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ward Tillman, Bobby Tillman, and Bill Tillman; one sister, Bonnie Stone; and his step-father, Herman Fiechtl.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, Kan. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, Kan. Pastor Steve Fellers will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus, Kan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
