JOPLIN, Mo. —
Peggy Louise Stephens, age 86, of Joplin, passed away at 1:12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Webb City Health & Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.
Born June 23, 1926, in McDonald County, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Nellie Martin Krokroskia and was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Orley Martin and Lydia Chaffin Martin. A homemaker and devoted mother, she lived in the Joplin area her lifetime. Peggy graduated from Carl Junction High School. She was an avid golfer and she and her husband were charter members of Briarbrook Golf and Country Club.
She married J.R. (Dick) Stephens on June 6, 1947. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2000. Five brothers and three sisters also preceded her.
Survivors include a son, Michael Stephens and wife, Connie, of Webb City; a daughter, Cheryl Ernest and husband, Pat, of Eagle, Colo.; four grandchildren, Chris Stephens and wife, Heather, Cari Ray and husband, Jason, all of Webb City, Angie Ernest, of Joplin, and Justin Ernest, of Eagle; and three great-grandsons, Cale Stephens, Caden and Cooper Ray.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Bob Simon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
