Irene Hancock

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Irene Hancock, 80, Carthage, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Mo.

Florence Irene Riddle was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Barry County, Mo., the daughter of the late Elva Riddle and Stella Maye Taylor Riddle. She was a 1951 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Mount Vernon, Mo., worked at the Sarcoxie Shoe Factory until 1956, and married Price Alan Hancock on March 31, 1956. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2006.

Irene was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, past president of the Jasper County PTA and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage. She received the Missouri Farm Bureau, Farm Wife of the Year Award in 1984. Irene loved playing card games of Pitch with her friends, a mean game of Dominos (Double 12s) with her husband, Alan and kids and Uno with her grandchildren. A great enjoyment to her was tending to her flowers around the farm.

Survivors include two daughters, Ronda Gail Kreutzer, Carthage, and Gloria DeVillers, Carthage; two sons, James Alan (Tracey) Hancock, El Reno, Okla., and John Mark Hancock, St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Jean Batson, Pierce City, Mo., and Sharon Kay (Gary) Wood, Birch Tree, Mo.; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Riddle, Holt, Mo., and Ronnie Riddle, Jasper, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Cpl. Dustin DeVillers, USMC, Phillip DeVillers, Russell (Ronda) Kreutzer, Rachel Kreutzer, Justin (Sarah) Hancock, Kelsey (Josh) Westerhold and Jessie Hancock. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alan Hancock; four sisters, Marzella Sapp, Rosella Lipp, Darlene Brown and Roberta Miller; and four brothes, James, Doyle, Jerry and Leroy Riddle.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the donor's charity of choice.
