JOPLIN, Mo. —
Alfred Baker, 74, of rural Joplin, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at his home, following a long illness.
He was born March 22, 1939, in Quapaw, Okla., to Glen G. and Florence Box Baker. He grew up in the Hallowell and Columbus, Kan. area, and graduated from Seneca High School, Seneca, Mo. For many years, he was a self-employed mechanic.
He married Janis Hall on Oct. 1, 1965. She survives.
Other survivors include three children, Madora Baker, Alfred L. Baker and Michelle Zumwalt, all of Joplin; three grandchildren, Jake Zumwalt and Jared Zumwalt, both of Joplin, and Alysha Lewis, Victorville, Calif.; one brother, Glen Baker, rural Joplin; and two sisters, Joyce Crowder, Wyandotte, Okla., and Peggy Slankard, Joplin. His parents and two brothers, Orville Baker and Fred Baker, preceded him in death.
Minister Butch Ward, of Hornet Christian Church, will officiate at memorial services. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Calvary Baptist Church, 600 East 50th Street.
