Norma Elaine Hinson

CARTHAGE, MO — Norma Elaine Hinson (Smith) was born on Feb. 24, 1934. She moved to Heaven on Nov. 9, 2010.

She married the love of her earthly life, Jimmie, on Aug. 12, 1954. Norma and Jimmie brought four wonderful children into the world. They are Elaine (Brad) Joines, Carl Junction, Beverly (Rick) Brust, Carthage, Jim (June) Hinson, Independence, and Jeff (Judy) Hinson, Carterville. They are honored to have nine grandchildren. They are very proud of Bryon Brust, Alicia Shorter, Brent Brust, Brandi Brust, Carissa Yardley, Latessa Hinson, Levi Hinson, Jenna Hinson and Jaren Hinson. They are also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Vance and Mabel Smith; and her beloved husband, Jimmie. She is survived by her sister, Elinor Dean, Broken Bow, Neb.; and a brother, Bob Smith, Broken Bow.

She was born and raised outside of Broken Bow, and graduated from Broken Bow High School. She earned her degrees from Kearney State Teachers College, Central Bible College and Missouri Southern State College. Norma taught in one room schools in Nebraska, and in the Carthage School District. After retirement, she taught at the Family Literacy Center. She was an avid volunteer for the American Red Cross and several civic organizations. She served the Women's Ministries Organization for many years and was head counselor for the Southern Missouri District of the Assemblies of God for 19 years. She also served as Jimmie's helpmate, pastoring three churches over a time span of 40 years.

Norma dedicated her life to her unwavering faith in God, her family, those in need and to education. Norma will be greatly missed but leaves a rich heritage for all those who knew her. Her family celebrates the accomplishment of her lifelong dream, eternity in Heaven with her Savior, husband, family, friends and the many she led to Jesus.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church, 1605 Baker, Carthage, Mo. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church. Rev. Larry Graham will officiate. Graveside services will follow in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
