Esther E.L. Malmquist

Avilla, Mo. — Esther E. L. Malmquist, 97, went  home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

She was born July 17, 1915, in Omaha, Neb. She and her parents, Samuel and Elma Malmquist, along with her brother, Gustav Malmquist, then moved to Paxton, Neb. and then Ogallalah, Neb. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a teen and then went to St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minn.

There she met Yvonne Ketelle.  They came to Avilla and surrounding communities, in January 1946, to begin over 60 years of service to the Lord. Only Heaven knows how many people, young and old, that their lives and ministry had an impact on, not only in their community but across the world, as they hosted many missionaries in their home. Her ministry continued after Yvonnes death and even in her last days, she was still talking about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Esther had a smile for everyone and could say the wittiest comments, which brought each of us many smiles and laughter. She trusted the Lord for every aspect of her life and now she is rejoicing in His glorious presence. Her family and many friends will greatly miss her, but may each of us take what we've learned from her and share it with others.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin.

Contributions may be made to the Rural Home Missions, New Tribes Mission, or Gideons Association.
