Oma L. Weible

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Mrs. Oma LaVerne Weible, 88, of Webb City, Mo., formerly of Joplin, departed this life on Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2013, in the comfort of her home after a recent decline in health.

Oma entered this life on Nov. 8, 1924, in Kingsville, Mo., the youngest child born to the union of the late William Clarence and Mary Ellen (Shaw) Malcom. She was raised in Holden, Mo. and was a 1942, graduate, of Holden High School. Life took her too many places.  She was proud to have worked in California during World War II at an airplane manufacturing plant, before residing in Kansas City, Mo., Memphis, Tenn., Houston, Texas and Tulsa, Okla. and moving to Joplin, Mo., in 2004. Throughout her life she worked as a waitress and a realtor. She enjoyed reading, history, poetry and quilting. Oma was of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and a special family friend, John Burch.

Oma is survived by her four children, Shielah Baggett, of Abilene, Texas, Trisha Conner, of Joplin, Lana Brown and husband, Warren, of Tulsa and James E. Weible, of Joplin; four grandchildren, Douglas E. Conner, Taylor Brown, Tracy Shephard and Evan M. Weible; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Isabella Blue Conner (awaiting the arrival of a third, Owen James Weible); several nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Dorothy Burch Murrill and her sons, Roger, Ronnie and Eddy Burch. Dorothy and Oma have been best friends for more than 53 years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Weible are 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, with Chaplain Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Douglas Conner, Evan Weible, Warren Brown, Roger Burch, Ronnie Burch and Eddy Burch. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Wounded Warriors Project and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
