John Allen McCormack

NEOSHO, Mo. —

 

John Allen McCormack, Jr., 60, of Neosho, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrill Lester McCormack; and daughter, Sherrill Lester McCormack II, of Neosho; his daughters, Meghan McCormack Young and Kelly McCormack Province; and seven grandchildren, all of Pittsburg, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Allen McCormack and Jacquelyn Welch McCormack of Pittsburg.

John was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 23, 1951. He grew up in Mulberry, Kan., and Pittsburg, attending Pittsburg High School. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a BA in Economics and Political Service and a Masters of Constitutional Law.

His business career included Citi Bank of N.Y. and Interfirst Bank in Dallas. In addition, John was the author of five novels; the host of a radio talk show, “The McCormack Files,” and also conducted training for law enforcement. He was co-founder of the Crawdad Festival in Souteast Kansas, an organization formed to support various local charities. Most recently, he taught a multitude of courses at Pittsburg State University and provided consulting for management and strategic development at Macadoodles.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 16, in Hickory Grove Cemetery, in Inverness, Miss., with the Rev. Dr. William Doubek officiating. Friends may call at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Pittsburg State University to benefit student scholarships, or Newton County Relay for Life, in care of Clark Funeral Home, Post Office Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
