Travelers Rest, S.C. —
Mary Ellen (Hood) Robinson, 81 years old, formerly of Joplin, Mo., and now of Travelers Rest, S.C., spent a week in the St. Frances Hospital in Greenville, S.C., for an illness and was then moved into a hospice facility in Simpsonville, S.C., where she passed away on April 11, 2012.
Mary was born in Jasper County, Mo., on the 26th day of January, 1931. She attended a country school and graduated from high school in Duenweg, Mo. The family moved into a place in Duquesne, where she lived until graduating.
Mary worked a while as a telephone operator for the phone company. Then she went to work for Dr. Oltman as a dental assistant. She stayed at this job quite a long time.
I met Mary in the summer of 1956. I being James Robinson, from Seneca, Mo., who was in the Navy at the time, Mary loved to swim at Redings Mill Swimming Pool, which was a great pool in those days and that is where we met. I was only there a few days and departed for Argentia, Newfoundland. During our short visits I had already decided she was the love of my life. After two years in Newfoundland, I returned to Seneca on my way to Pensacola, Fla., for duty. I contacted Mary, asked her to marry me and we made plans to be married. We were married in June of 1958, and lived in Florida a while.
Our son, Scott, was born while we lived in Pensacola. Then we lived in Naples, Italy for three years. Mary enjoyed our time there. We got to see things right out of world history and visited a lot of places and made some wonderful friends. Mary enjoyed a cruise trip through the Mediterranean Sea area and visiting some more countries on the way back to the United States. Mary was always ready to make a trip home to visit her family.
