TULSA, Okla. —
Roger E. Johnston was born July 4, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 3 a.m. at the Clarehouse Hospice in Tulsa, Okla. Roger had been battling prostate cancer since June 2011.
His career spanned 35 years with LaBarge Technologies (now Ducommun-Labarge). He was a 1965 graduate of Joplin High School and 1971 graduate of Missouri Southern. He started as a materials manager at the Joplin plant for LaBarge Electronics 1979, later traveled with sales and business development and in 2001, became general manager of the Tulsa manufacturing plant and oil field services facility for LaBarge-Ducommun, Inc.
His son, Ryan Bay Johnston and his father, Kenneth Johnston, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Catherine Gray Johnston, of the home and his son, Dylan Johnston, of Leiden, Netherlands; two sisters, Virginia Bogert and her husband, John Bogert, of Springfield, Mo., and Elaine Smith and her husband, Jim Smith, of Joplin; and his mother, Vera Comstock Johnston, of Joplin.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home at 91st and Harvard. Services will be held at Crossroads Church at 2525 West Main Street in Jenks, Okla., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Pastor Doug Carey will officiate.
