JOPLIN, Mo. —
Judith Anne Sperry Heikkila, age 69, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, at her home, following an illness.
Judy was born on Jan. 24, 1944, in Joplin, the daughter of the late David and Virginia (Carrico) Sperry. She had been a lifetime area resident. She worked as an operator for South Western Bell Telephone Company, a school bus driver for Joplin R-8 School District and as a sales associate for Wal-Mart, retiring in 2006. Judy enjoyed nature. She created a special garden at her home filled with flowers, a wonderful place for her to feed her birds. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, stained glass and crocheting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
On Aug. 22, 1964, she married Dennis Heikkila. He survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Dennis Heikkila and wife, Lyn and Anthony Heikkila and wife, Diane, all of Joplin; two daughters, Cindie Heikkila, Florida, and Paula Heikkila, Missouri; two brothers, David Sperry and wife, Carolyn, Largo, Fla., and Jim Sperry and wife, Gloria, Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Kathie Baker and husband, Max, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Susan Humphrey and husband, Shane, Omaha, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Delia, Hailey, Hayden, Hadrian, Aurora and Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Rev. Ed Willoughby will officiate. A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
