SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Jeanette McCown Shahan, age 93, of Springfield, Mo., passed away at 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Magnolia Square Skilled Nursing Facility in Springfield.
Jeanette was born March 22, 1920, in Post Oak, Texas. She lived in Nixa, Mo., for over 20 years, then moved to Joplin and lived here until 2012, when she moved back to Springfield. Jeanette received her Bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and her Master's Degree from Drury University. She was employed as a school teacher for over 30 years, retiring from the Springfield School District. Jeanette served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a member of the Villa Heights Christian Church in Joplin.
Jeanette was preceded in death by two husbands, Andrew Jack McCown and Walter Shahan; a brother, Roy Tomlinson; a sister, Margaret Parks; and a niece, Sandra Gifford.
Survivors include a daughter, Jana Buxton and husband, Steve, Frankfort, Ky.; a son, Jim McCown, Cedar Creek, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Mary Eldridge, Joplin; a stepson, Taylor Shahan and wife, Cheryl, Owasso, Okla.; five grandchildren, Christina Baird, Derek Buxton, Chis McCown, Stephanie Buxton and Kevin McCown; and five great-grandchildren Alexa Reed, Elizabeth Buxton, Megan Perryman, Sabrina Weldon and Haley McCown.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Truman Brady, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Villa Heights Christian Church in care of the mortuary.
