Natalie Taylor Fleischaker

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Natalie Taylor Fleischaker earned her angel wings on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after a courageous nine month battle with a DIPG brain tumor. She went peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Natalie was born July 22, 2004, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center to parents, Stephen and Ashley Fleischaker. Natalie was a fighter from day one and after a 10-day stay in the NICU she resided in Overland Park, Kan. Natalie was a second grade student at Heartland Elementary School where she was loved by so many and will forever be a "Jag". She was a very talented artist who had multiple of her creations hung in the school district administration building. Natalie enjoyed playing soccer and softball with her buddies, participating in Girl Scout Daisy and Brownie troop activities where even in her illness she was the top cookie seller this year.

Natalie is survived by her parents, Ashley and Steve and her siblings, Jack and Emily (age 6), all of the home. She is also mourned by her paternal grandparents, Jim and Diana Fleischaker, Joplin, Mo.; her maternal grandparents, Gale and Lucy Smith, of Edmond, Okla.; her aunts and uncles, Michael and Aimee Fleischaker and Taylor and Jessica Smith; her cousins, Gabe, Grady and Grayson Smith; and many extended family and friends.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Mo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS 66213.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Cure Starts Now which is leading the way in funding research on DIPG. In addition, a memorial account has been set up in Natalie's name to collect funds for distribution to the multiple charitable organizations that have helped us throughout Natalie's journey. Donations can be made payable to the Natalie Fleischaker Memorial Fund and sent in care of Bank of Blue Valley, Attention: Marilyn Madden, P.O. Box 26128, Overland Park, KS 66225-6128.
