COLUMBUS, Kan. —
Bill R. Morris, age 88, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Medicalodge, of Columbus.
Mr. Morris was born Oct. 21, 1924, near West Mineral, Kan. He was the only son of Samuel R. Morris and Lucy Ann Hamblin Morris. He attended the area schools and graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1942.
He was inducted in the U.S. Navy on Oct. 20, 1943. He worked for the North East Oklahoma Railroad Company before and after returning from World War II. He then worked at the Jayhawk plant for 37 years, for Quaker Valley Construction, Spencer Chemical Company and Gulf Oil Corp and retired from Chevron Oil Co. in 1984.
He married Treva Darlene Fee on Nov. 13, 1948, in Columbus. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2009.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alma Morris McCormick and Marjorie Morris Unruh; and his son, Randall Blake Morris.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Columbus, and was a former member of the International Chemical Worker's Union. He was also a proud member of the Columbus American Legion Post 0003 for over 61 years and a life member of the Columbus VFW Post 1372 and the Chevron Retiree's Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Vicki R. Morris; a son-in-law, Robert L. Vick, of Edmond, Okla.; and his grandson, Samuel Blake Morris, of Pittsburg, Kan.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Columbus Cemetery, Columbus. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus.
