Maggie "Marie" Hamilton

CARTHAGE, Mo. —

Maggie Marie Hamilton, 98, Carthage, Mo., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Freeman West Medical Center, Joplin.

Maggie Marie Haggard was born July 26, 1914, in Carthage, the daughter of the late Frank W. Haggard and Emma Peacock Haggard.

She married John Albert Hamilton on June 29, 1929, in Neosho, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1982.

She was a homemaker and served as treasurer and travel coordinator for the O.A.T.S. Bus. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a devoted wife and mother, enjoying cooking, sewing, gardening, cards, playing the piano, visiting friends and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime resident of the Carthage community before entering Spring River Christian Village over a year ago.

Additional survivors include a sister, Edith Carr, Pittsburg, Kan.; three daughters, Margaret (Harry) Moore, Peoria, Ill., Helen (Ron) Joyce, Springdale, Ark., and Sue (Jerry) Simmons, Carthage; three sons, William Hamilton, Carthage, Murrell (Joyce) Hamilton, Jasper, Mo., and Homer (Debbie) Hamilton, Carthage; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Hamilton; a daughter, Violet Jane; two sons, Jack Hamilton and Frank James Hamilton; one sister, Ruth Carr; and two brothers, Frank and Glenn Haggard.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Rev. Ed Hamilton will officiate. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the Mercy-McCune-Brooks Hospital Auxiliary, Carthage.
