OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. —
Delcie Helen Turner (Grandma Turner) passed from her temporary residence to her eternal home, peacefully, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was born in Paden, Okla., on Oct. 18, 1920, to George Carrol and Mollie Delanie Speir.
She married her sweetheart, William Russell (W.R. or Bill) Turner, on Nov. 20, 1939. To this union was born six children, Billy Carroll, Marvin Douglas, Bruce Dewayne, Delcie Carol, Brenda Kay and Cheryl Ann.
Her husband, of 50 years; her sons, Billy and Marvin; her daughter, Carol; and grandchildren, Scott and Adalee, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Bruce and wife, Ruth, of Miami, Okla.; her daughter, Brenda and husband, Don Rodgers, of Oklahoma City; her daughter, Cheryl Hardin, of Weatherford, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Sarah Arlene Bryant, of Stockton, Mo.; and one brother, Bennie Speir and wife, Geneva, of Apache Junction, Ariz. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and one treasured great-great-great-grandson, in addition to many other relatives.
She spent her adult life as a pastors wife in the new field ministry. She worked hand in hand with her husband, Bill in building and pastoring churches over the southern part of Texas and additionally pastored in California, Missouri, Michigan and Oklahoma. Together they physically built five churches but pastored a total 12 churches. She and her husband also owned various businesses in Missouri and Texas, but serving Jesus was always her first love and priority. She tenderly cared for her husband for many years when his health failed. Even in her last days of life, she spent hours ministering to the other residents of the nursing home and the nursing staff. Many times the nurses would stop the family and let them know she had prayed for this nurse or that hurting patient. She was faithful to the end in her time on this earth with her only desire to see the lost brought to Jesus and all of her children and grandchildren living for Him.
Funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. at Christpoint Church, 23rd and Annie Baxter in Joplin, with Pastor Joshua Pennington and Pastor Dan Saunders officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Friday in Wagoner Cemetery, near Stockton. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
