Thomas F. Brock

JOPLIN, Mo. — Thomas F. Brock, age 59, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

Tom was born July 11, 1953, in Joplin, son of the late Jerry Brock and Betty Gilliam Brock Scribner.  Tom graduated from Memorial High School in 1971, and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Local # 6313 Union.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, being involved in their sports activities, and especially spending long hours in his shop working on projects.  His joy of racing began with his motorcycle racing, followed by his involvement with his sons racing, and following friends and families in the racing community. Tom was also known for spending time on the golf course with his friends. He enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He loved spending time with his four grandchildren, and traveling the country in his R.V. with his wife.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his step-dad, Harles Scrib Scribner; brother-in-law, John Felker; and uncle, Jim Gilliam.

Survivors include his wife, of  37 years, Sharon Heath Brock; son, Shawn Brock and wife, Anna; daughter, Alicia Stricklin and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Addie, Laynie, Gage, and Gavin; sister, Linda Felker all of Joplin; brother, Gene Brock and wife, Kay, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; step-sister, Michelle Williams, of Wyandotte, Okla., and his faithful companion, Shirley.

A special thanks to Joe, his golfing buddy, for his devoted friendship, and to Randy for his racing trips, and other enjoyable memories.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church of Joplin. Cremation will follow the service, and private inurnment of his ashes will occur at a later date in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Avalon Hospice.
