Neil L. Norris

Redings Mill, Mo. — It deeply saddens the family to announce the crossing over of Neil Lee Norris, age 52, of Redings Mill, Mo., on March 8, 2013, after a five year courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends at his side.

Neil was born on June 23, 1960, at Trinity Luthern Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He attended Joplin elementary schools and graduated from Parkwood High School, class of 1978. He attended Missouri Southern College. He served as trustee on the Redings Mill Village Board for several years and was employed at the Joplin Globe for 29 years. He was the former owner of Geppettos Pizzeria at 32nd and McClelland.

Neil is survived by his son, Seth Gabriel Norris, Joplin; his mother, Marilou; sisters, Kimi Kyle Harlan (Thomas), Webb City and Kelli Kae Norris, Joplin; niece, Bailey Kyle Goodall, Joplin; former brother-in-laws, J. Dykman and Gordon Goodall; uncles and aunts, Thomas A Wade, Arcadia, Ks, Joseph A Wade, Garden Grove, Calif., Marilyn Wade, Pittsburg, Kan., Les Eurit, Pittsburg, Donna Miller (George), Oronogo, Mo., Jeanne Comer (Ron), Spring City, Mary Beth Lewis (Tom), Frontenac, Kan.; many cousins; special friends including, Mark Cupps, John Snapp, Nancy Grieb and his special little friends, a Brussels Griffon named Milla and a Husky named Harlow. Neil is preceded in death by his brother, Don Robert; son, Beau Michael; father, Robert Lee Norris; paternal grandparents, Orville and Valda Norris; maternal grandparents, James A and Cordelia Wade of Englevale, Kan.

Neils hobbies were golf, softball, reading history, science fiction movies and cooking for family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel, followed by a reception at the family home at 208 Pershing, Redings Mill, Mo. The visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Anisa Hassan and all at Freeman Cancer Center, Dr. Brian Key and staff at M.D. Anderson, Houston, Texas and the wonderful people at Avalon Hospice.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Freeman Cancer Center in care of the mortuary.

Thank you for all the prayers and cards that have helped us through a difficult time.  May God Bless you all.
