SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Gregory L. Vance, 43, Springfield, died March 10, 2013, at St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, following a short illness.

Greg was born April 1, 1969, in Joplin, Mo., the son of Frank and Lynda (McCord) Vance. He was a lifelong area resident and had worked as a heavy equipment operator and fuser in the gas distribution industry.

He is survived by a son, Andrew Shepherd and wife, Rachel and grandchildren, Geneva and Brody, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; his father, Frank Vance and wife, Vivian, of Joplin; his mother, Lynda Simpson, Springfield; maternal grandmother, Thea Pruitt, Springfield; brother, Shawn Vance and wife, Jo Lynn, Neosho; sister, Kelli Vance, Springfield; two nephews, Todd Vincent and Cory Vance; two nieces, Kalli Chapman and Samantha Vance; great-niece, Madyson and chosen family by love, a special friend and companion, Melissa Summers, Will and Angela Gossett, Springfield; Jake, Dallynn, Jaylinn and Ayden Ales, Republic and Annie and Dillon Combs. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Loyd and Winona Vance; maternal grandfather, Lloyd Pruitt; and niece, Samantha Breekay Gossett.

The body has been taken for cremation and memorial services will be held on Friday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby, Pastor Mike Whorlow will officiate. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home until 4 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Greg may be made to the Greg Vance Educational Memorial Fund, to be used for his grandchildren's education in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 26, Granby, MO 64844.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Granby.
