JOPLIN, Mo. —
George E. Gagle Sr., age 88, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
George was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Central City, Neb., son of the late Bill and Nan Gagle. He graduated from Central City High School in 1943, before joining the United States Navy where he served from 1943 through 1946. He was owner and operator of San Souci Machine Shop where he worked as a machinist for years and he taught at Franklin Tech in Joplin for many years. He was active with the Boy Scouts for many years and was a member of South Joplin Christian Church since 1959. He was also a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and the Joplin Rifle and Pistol Club.
George was a dedicated family man who loved his family very much and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marilyn Necker Gagle; son, George E. Gagle Jr., of Joplin; daughter, Kristy Ann Ward, of Redding, Calif.; sister, Bonnie Gagle, of Joplin; grandchildren, Melanie Ann Spillman, Roberta Miller and Anna Feddelke, all of Joplin; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kathryn L. Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
Interment will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. in Lindale Cemetery, Hordville, Neb., with Rev. Darren Necker officiating.
