Jane Ann Newell

JOPLIN, Mo. — Jane Ann Newell, age 74, left this world on April 27, 2013, at Spring River Christian Village.

Jane was born May 23, 1938, to Ruth and Ernie Kirkpatrick.

After graduating high school in Baxter Springs, Kan. in 1956, Jane met the love of her life, Max Newell. Jane and Max were united in marriage Nov. 9, 1957.

Jane and Max had four wonderful children who were the love of their lives, Terry Tammy, Shari and David.

As Jane was raising her children she continued her education for her love of teaching. In 1975, she earned her BA degree in Education from Wichita State University and went on to get her Masters degree in Education from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kan. in 1981.

Jane loved children and taught elementary school in 1975 in Derby, Kan. After moving to Galena, Jane taught from 1976 to 2003, at Galena Elementary Schools.

Although Jane loved to teach, her true passion was playing the piano. Jane as a little girl learned to play the piano and continued teaching others to play throughout the years. Jane played for many churches and for anyone who would ask her. She loved to put her heart and soul into every song she played. If you were fortunate to hear her play, you would know that it was a talent only God could give someone. Jane could also play the pipe organ using multiple keyboards. Jane could play as if the rivers of Heaven were Flowing through her fingers.

The most important thing in Jane's life was Jesus. Everything she did she gave all the Glory to God. No matter what trials or tribulations came her way, she always said, "To put it in God's hands and he would take care of it!"

Jane's husband, Max, preceded her in death in 1998.

She leaves behind four children, Terry Newell, Tammy Thomas, husband, Danny and two children, Stephanie and Brandon, Shari Cooper, husband, John and two children, Alisha and Stephen and David Newell and fiance, Melanie Gaudette and son, Spencer Newell. Jane had two sisters, Cheryl Shouse and Wilma McDaniel.

Jane and Max loved their grandchildren because it kept them young at heart. But now God has them both together again to love and cherish each other and pickup where only time kept them apart.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Paul Tomas Funeral Home, Miami, Okla., where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paul Thomas Relief Fund, Miami.
