JOPLIN, Mo. —
Marie Magoon, age 71, Joplin, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Mercy Hospital after an illness.
Marie was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Palentine, Ill., to the late Arthur L. Kane and Lyda McCall Kane and had lived in Joplin since 1969.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a clerk at the Book Haven. She volunteered for the Joplin R-VIII School District at the Refunction Junction. She was a member of First Christian Church, Joplin.
Marie married Richard Magoon on Feb. 14, 1976, in Joplin. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, Ricky Slezak, Joplin; a daughter, Sheri McKinzie, Joplin; siblings, Virginia Simnerman, McAlester, Okla., Joan Weiman, Clarence, Iowa, Bill Kane, Washington, Joy Parscal, Washington; grandchildren, Karissa Logan and Dusty Schlesselman; and great-granddaughter, Anna Logan. In addition to her parents; Marie was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Schlesselman and several brothers and sisters.
Memorial services are planned for Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, in care of Parker Mortuary.
