CARL JUNCTION, Mo. —
Samuel Cooper Vocelka, age 17, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home after fighting a four and a half year battle with ependymoma brain tumor.
Cooper was born on May 20, 1995, in Joplin, the son of Ron and Sherry (Winnett) Vocelka. He has been lifetime area resident. He graduated at mid-term from Joplin High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was active in the youth group. He loved skateboarding, photography and playing his guitar.
He is survived by his loving parents, Ron and Sherry Vocelka, Carl Junction; and his maternal grandmother, Norma Winnett, Carl Junction, Mo. He was much loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and innumerable friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Delbert Winnett; and his paternal grandparents, Frank and Elaine Vocelka Sr.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery, near Diamond, Mo. The visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel, followed by a prayer service.
Memorial contributions may be given to Children's Mercy Hospital Oncology Department in Kansas City, or the CERN Foundation in care of the mortuary.
