JOPLIN, Mo. —
Rachael Ferne Roderique, age 99, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1913, in Opolis, Kan., to James E. Davis and Prudence James Davis. Ferne was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. James Methodist Church in Joplin, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a lifetime American Legion Auxiliary member in Webb City, a member of the American Legion 8 & 40 club, a member of the Easter Star of Joplin, and was past president of many of the organizations for many years. Ferne will be remembered for loving to sell Poppies for the American Legion which she did year after year. She was considered a second mom by many of her nieces and nephews. Ferne was a very generous, sweet lady who was loved by everyone who met her and many of them would also refer to her as Aunt Ferne.
She married Nelson F. Roderique on Jan. 15, 1937, in Rolla, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Ferne was also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her nieces, Lois Jean Hart, of Joplin, Frances L. Michel, of Webb City, and Rachel Dawley, of Joplin; a nephew, Ron Riddle, of Webb City; along with many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Chad Degonia officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City.
