George H. Clark

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — George H. Clark, 92, of Baxter Springs, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo.

George was born on Jan. 25, 1921, in Sunnyside, rural Quapaw, Okla., to the union of L.B. and Grace (Gibson) Clark.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy (Peoples) Clark on Oct. 4, 1959, in Miami, Okla.

George served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a German Prisoner of War for 23 months. Then was a letter carrier for 20 years for the U.S. postal Service in Baxter Springs, from which he retired. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 206, Prisoners of War and Disabled Veterans. He was the oldest and last surviving charter member of V.F.W. Post 408. He was a member of the Quapaw Tribe and attended many different gatherings. He was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church in Baxter Springs.

George is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lee Clark; and two sisters, Ruth Cole and Mary Alice Harper.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; three sons, Albert Clark, of Joplin, Dean McDonald and wife, Caryl, of Grove, Okla., and David McDonald and wife, Gayle, of Quapaw; six grandchildren, Carey, Melissa, Stefanie, Lindsay, Chris and Jesse; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Pastor Tracy Rowe will officiate.
