Janet Gaye Hall Hughes, age 53 and her husband, Richard Dale (Dick) Hughes, age 58, passed away at their home in Asbury on Sunday, March 17, 2013.
They are survived by their two sons, Jesse Hughes and wife, Ember, of Olathe, Kan., Corey Hughes, of Carl Junction; and one grandson, Liam Hughes.
Janet was born Sept. 5, 1959, in Lamar, Mo. and lived in the rural Carl Junction area during her lifetime. A 1977 graduate, of Carl Junction High School, she recently completed her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development at N.E.O. In her early years she worked at Wilbert Screen Printing, of Pittsburg, Kan. She began her long career with the Head Start Program at their facility in Carthage, Mo., followed by North Main Street, then at Carl Junction Schools for 11 years, followed by Joplin and Seneca Schools. Janet was a Christian. She would do anything for you at a moments notice regardless of what it was or what it took to accomplish. No one could have ever created a better mom, friend or grandma. She loved people and everyone loved her. She was a woman that was as busy and bubbly as her personality. There was rarely a moment you didn't see a smile on her face. Words will never do justice to how incredible of a person she was.
In addition to her children, Janet is survived by her mother, Grace Hall, of Pittsburg; two brothers, Stuart Hall and wife, Terri, of Carl Junction, Curtis Hall and wife, Bonnie, of Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was proceded in her passing by her brother, Craig Hall; and father, Bob Hall.
Dick was born May 28, 1954, in Carthage, Mo. and also lived his life in the rural Carl Junction area, graduating from Carl Junction High School in 1972. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver all of his working life. His memberships included the American Legion Post in Pittsburg. Dick was an avid musician that loved to play the guitar. He was the greatest father and granddad you could imagine. To know him was to know a constant joker and kidder. He was a loving father that cared deeply for his children.
In addition to the children, Dick is survived by a brother, Bob Hughes and wife, Carla, of Sedalia, Mo.; three sisters, Deloris Grant and husband, Jerry, of Scammon, Kan., Linda Riley and husband, Gordon, of Carthage, Mo., Ramona Buerge, of Carthage; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in his passing by his father, John Hughes and mother, Jane Hughes.
Memorial services for Janet and Dick will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Carl Junction United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the church. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Corey A. Hughes Educational Fund, in care of Parker Mortuary, to help with his upcoming college expenses.
