CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Robert "Bob" Floyd Evans, 83, of Carthage passed away at 2:54 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home.
Bob was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Carthage, Mo., he was the son of Howard Hardy Evans and Anna F. Oliver Evans. Bob graduated from Carthage High School in 1947. He was a member of the Carthage FFA. Bobs highest priority was taking care of his family, he farmed the family farm at the age of 12, plowing, cultivating, and milking, while his older brothers were at war. Bob wasn't able to play sports or any other school activities because he needed to provide for his family. He worked the farm until he received his Bachelor Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1947. Bob then joined the United State Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant. He sent checks home each month so his mother could keep the family farm. He came back from the Air Force with his MG, wooed Janet Benschoter and they were married in 1954.
Bob started from scratch and with hard work and his business resolve had a successful career in ranching and farming. He was the director for the former Agriculture Stabilization Conservation (ACS) office. Bob was a former Carthage Councilman from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Carthage Kiwanis Club and a member of College Heights Christian Church, Joplin, where he was in the Servants Class and small groups of Purpose Driven Life and Financial Peace. Bob had also taught Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Carthage. Bobs dedication to church, community and family, his love, knowledge and humor will be sorely missed by all.
Bob was united in marriage to Janet Leona Benschoter on June 12, 1954, at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Brad Kent Evans and wife, Susan Beekly Evans, of College Station, Texas and Brent Lance Evans and wife, Chery Trayford Evans, of Lee Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Jennifer Evans Lund and husband, John Eric Lund, of Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Gladys Evans Stiles, of Topeka, Kan., Erma Evans Erickson, of Carthage, Willy Bevirt, of Midland, Mich., Thelma Evans Kissire, of Jasper and Ruth Evans Webb, of Claremont, Fla.; five grandchildren, Erik James Lund, Rachel Joy Evans, Hannah Noelle Evans, Alison Claire Lund, Andrew Samuel Evans. Bob was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Evans; six brothers, Billy Lloyd Evans, Leon Evans, Eugene Evans, Wayne Evans, Glenn Evans and Gene Evans; and one sister, Edna Evans Graham.
Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Nazarene Church in Carthage. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Private family graveside will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Park Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Servants Class at College Heights Christian Church or the Carthage YMCA in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
