Dean Stumbaugh

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —

Dean Stumbaugh, 90, went home to be with the Lord at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo., after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Coffeyville, Kan., to Wayne and Jennie (Gibson) Stumbaugh. He graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1940. Dean was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, Mo.

Dean was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps 8th Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in England from 1944 to 1945.

Dean was united in marriage to Jean McCormick on March 15, 1942. Together they raised three children, which was his proudest accomplishment. Dean and Jean celebrated their 70th anniversary on March 15, 2012, in Springfield, with their entire family. Another highlight of Dean's life was when his son, Don, accompanied him on the Ozarks Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in October 2010.

Dean is survived by his wife, Jean and their three children, Steve Stumbaugh, of Topeka, Kan., Don Stumbaugh, of Eudora, Kan., and Jane (Mrs. Gary) Carden, of Battlefield, Mo. He enjoyed three grandchildren, Chris-Anne (Mrs. Jeremy) Crabtree, of Springfield, Stephany (Mrs. Rick) Kuhlman, of Topeka, and Tanner Dean Stumbaugh, of Lawrence, Kan. He is also survived by three precious great-grandchildren, Carson Crabtree, Cameron Crabtree and Emma Kuhlman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield, with Rev. Jim Massey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in memory of Dean Stumbaugh.

Services have been entrusted with Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
