BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Thelma Sweet was born to Bruce Sr. and Waneta(Mann) in Vinita, Okla. She graduated from Baxter Springs High School and attended Pittsburg State University.
Thelma married Charles How Jr. on May 11, 1956, in the First Christian Church in Baxter Springs.
Survivors include daughters, Mary (Carl) Ice, of Westlake, Texas, and Michelle (Robert) Larson, of Baxter Springs; grandchildren, Marshall (Megan) Ice, of Arkansas City, Kan., Karen Ice, of Barrington, Ill., Melanie Miller, of Dodge City, Kan., Sarah Karami, of Tulsa, Okla., Laura (Brian) Schnedler, of Chanute, and step granddaugther, Catrina Larson, of Pittsburg, Kan. Thelma had two great-grandsons, Caden Miller and Joshuah Schnedler; and one step great-granddaughter, Ashley George. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Bruce Jr. and Larry; and ex-husband, Charles How Jr. Additional survivors are nephews, Dewey, Eric and Ted Sweet and Brent (Lori) Sills; as well as nieces, Sonia Kappleman, Lanna' (Steve) Foster and Tiffany (Jeff) Maynard.
Thelma was an owner of Sweet's Furniture, owned Thelma How Interiors and a member of Bethel Community Church. Thelma loved God and her family. She enjoyed reading scripture and spending time with loved ones. She was an original member of the Keenagers Singing Group and a talented interior decorator.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Bethel Community Church. Pastor Mark Kerr will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.
