Kathryn L. Johnson

JOPLIN, Mo. — Born Dec. 15, 1932, in Wentworth, Mo., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Saturday, March 22, 2014, daughter of Perry Atteberry and Mae Carr.

Survived by six children, Kathy and (Armand) DeLeurere, of Holiday Island, Ark., and from Joplin the following, Ken and (Janie Erwin) Johnson, Dave and ( Sherri Henrickson) Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Susan Sims and Linda and (Thomas) Sonaty. Known as "Grandma Katie" and "GG" to 11 grandchildren and 11  great-grandchildren; former husband, Ken and (Rose) Johnson, of Joplin; one brother, Jack and (Pat) Atteberry, of Harrisonville, Mo., and sister-in-law, Pat Atteberry, of Faucett, Mo.

Preceded in death by siblings, Barbara Jo, Jimmy, Mary and Paul Atteberry.

After raising a family, she and husband, Ken ventured to Saudi Arabia, where they lived for eight years. While working there as a decorator for Mobil Oil, she was flown to London and Paris for fabrics and furnishings. During these years they had the opportunity to travel the world extensively, touring the pyramids of Egypt by camelback, riding atop elephants and visiting the Taj Mahal in India and cruising the Greek Isles, just to name a few.

After several years of retirement at Table Rock Lake and at the age of 63, she acquired her LMT from Edgar Cayce School of Massotherapy in Virginia Beach, Va. For the following two years she resided in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, before returning to her beloved lake home. Many experienced the touch of her healing hands for over 10 years.

In her 70s, after Hurricane Katrina, she worked for FEMA for approximately two years. She then had one of her favorite life experiences, swimming with dolphins while on a spiritual trip to Mexico.

Having lived 28 wonderful years at the lake, she recently returned to Joplin. In honor of her wishes, there will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Mercy Hospice Joplin, 4500 East 32nd Street, Joplin, MO 64804
