Marilyn Sue Porter

JOPLIN, Mo. — Marilyn Sue Porter, age 76, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 10:18 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin following a sudden illness.

Marilyn was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Reeds, Mo., the daughter, of Loren and Leta Henry. She was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School and attended Joplin Jr. College.  She was employed with Freeman Health System in Joplin for 25 years, working as a Secretary in the Nutrition Services Dept. She retired in Feb. of 2012.

Marilyn was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, and was a devoted member of her Sunday School Class.

Marilyn married William "Bill" Max Porter June 26, 1956 in Dudman Springs, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Pierson Smith.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Sue Smith and husband, Michael and Jill Ann Welch and husband, Jerry, all of Joplin and Amy Lynn Medley and husband, Matt, Carl Junction, Mo.; one brother, Terry Henry and wife, Linda, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Beverly Jean Selvey and husband, Carl, Lamar, Mo. and Judith Jackson and husband, Larry, Lone Tree, Colo.; eight grandchildren,  Maryl Lynn Noirfalise, Barrett Noirfalise, Eric Welch, Dillon Welch, Ryan Welch, Riley Smith and wife, Labresca, Meredith Lynn Medley, and Max William Medley; and two great- grandchildren, Adalynn Noirfalise, and Rilynn Smith.

Family was everything to Marilyn and she thanked God everyday for her parents who raised their family to love the Lord with all their heart, and to honor Him, and she passed that on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rev. John Swadley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Those honoring her life as pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Jerry Welch, Matt Medley, Maryl Noirfalise, Barrett Noirfalise, and Riley Smith. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mortuary.

Memorial contributions are requested to Forest Park Baptist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
