Douglas "Doug" Jones

JOPLIN, Mo. — Mr. Douglas Carl "Doug" Jones, 60, of Joplin, Mo., departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, while at his lake home after suffering a massive heart attack.

Doug began his earthly journey on April 22, 1953, in Santa Monica, Calif., one of two children born to the late Marlin Elliott and Eleanor Iola (Johnson) Jones. He was raised in Santa Monica, and was 1971 graduate of Santa Monica High School. Doug served his country faithfully in the United States Army, following high school. In 1976, he moved to Joplin, where he attended Ozark Christian College. In 1978, he received his real estate licensee which began his 35-year career buying and selling properties in the Joplin and surrounding areas. He was currently an agent with Keller-Williams of Southwest Missouri. He was a member of College Heights Christian Church, United States Tennis Association and board member of Heritage Bay in Rogers, Ark. His favorite memories were being at the lake taking all of his family and friends on his boat and jet skis any chance he got. He will be deeply missed by many.

After services Doug will be cremated, per his wishes, his ashes will be taken to Beaver Lake for a private ceremony with family and friends.

Doug is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Wicke and husband, Luke, of Oahu, Hawaii, and Kim Bruder and husband, Mark, of Webb City, Mo.; a son, Jason Baldwin and wife, Becca, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; five grandchildren, Ethan, Kayla and Oliver Wicke and Evan and Ashton Bruder; a sister, Karen Noble and husband, Chip, of Richland, Wash.; his former wife, Karen Jones, of Joplin; great friend and business partner, Sean McWilliams and wife, Kim and their two sons, Brody and Blake, of Joplin; as well as a host of other family, friends, neighbors and colleagues who will dearly miss Doug and his fun loving spirit.

Funeral services for Doug will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, with Pastor Randy Gariss officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday starting at 12 noon in the mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to Heritage Bay and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
