McCune, Kan. — Edith Patience Roberts (Pat Johnson), 93, of McCune, Kan., formerly of West Mineral, Kan., peacefully passed away at Freeman Hospital on Aug. 23, 2013, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Pat was born April 22, 1920, in Virginia, Minn., to Mort and Jenny (Mathews) Jones. The family moved to Southeast Kansas in 1925.

Pat attended grade school in Weir, Cherokee, Langdon Lane, Jr. High at Roosevelt in Pittsburg and graduated with the Class of 1938, at the Weir High School. Pat attended Wieners Photography School in Topeka for one year.

On Jan. 7, 1943, she married Sgt. T.K. (Catfish) Johnson a U.S.M.C. Paratrooper in Independence, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1980.

She married Claude M. Roberts on Nov. 26, 1983, in West Mineral. He died Aug. 1,1992.

She worked in photography Studios in Kansas City, Mo., San Diego, Calif., El Cajon, Colo. and Pocatello, Idaho. While Catfish was a patient in Sun Valley Idaho Naval Hospital, she drove a Taxi. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, they moved to West Mineral and owned the Mineral Inn for 32 years. She also worked at KAAP retiring in 1985. After living in West Mineral for 57 years she moved to McCune in 2002, to be near family.

Pat was a member of the West Mineral Methodist Church, a Charter member of West Mineral Auxiliary FOE 918 and the VFW Auxiliary of Oswego, Kan. She had been a Charter member of the former West Mineral American Legion, before its closing.

Survivors are two sons, John Johnson (Vicky), of West Mineral, Fred Johnson (Doris), of Greenfield, Mo.; two daughters, Patricia Parsons (Richard), of McCune, Ronwyn Hallam (Bob) RR,  Galena, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and five nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three sisters, Iona Priscilla Barton, 1947, Donna Pearl Sutton 1969; infant, Marjorie Jane Jones 1922; two stepfathers, Walter Sparks 1939 and Fred Skaggs 1957; a grandson-in-law, Larry Owens; and two step-children, Perle and Marie Roberts.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Rev. Justin Coberley officiating. Burial will follow in the Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday.
