CARTHAGE, MO — Bart Eugene "Gene" Goldman, 81, Carthage, Mo., passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin. Bart Eugene Goldman was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Carthage, the son of William Bartlet Goldman and Daisy Bell (Crow) Goldman. He attended Carthage Public Schools and was a graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1946. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran from 1947 to 1951, serving in Korea. He married Wanda Marlene Wilks on Dec. 24, 1948. She survives. Gene was a 50-year employee of Leggett & Platt in bedspring manufacturing management, retiring in January, 1996. He was a member of First Christian Church, Carthage, and was a mason in Lodge 197, Carthage, and a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Springfield, Mo. Additional survivors include a daughter, Sheila D. (Nick) Shepherd, Bentonville, Ark.; two sons, Lawrence (Bea) Goldman, Yukon, Okla., and Steven J. (Karen) Goldman, Carthage; one sister, Helen Hutchenson, Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Max (Nadine) Goldman, Carthage, and Rex Goldman, Carthage; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Masonic services will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, followed by a visitation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. in the Knell Mortuary Chapel.
