JOPLIN, Mo. —
Glenda C. Gurley, age 72, Joplin, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at her home with family at her side.
Glenda was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Joplin, daughter of the late Ralph Cummins and Arremah Hess Cummins. She graduated from Joplin High School, then attended Joplin Junior College and Missouri Southern State University. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her time to taking care of her family. Glenda and Carl had children in their home for more than 40 years and cared for her mother during the last years of Arremah's life. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter and the Rainbow Girls.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carl; sons, Curtis R. Gurley and wife, Rebecca Miller Gurley, of Farmington, N.M., Donald R. Gurley and wife, Leticia, of Billings, Mo., Michael E. Gurley and wife, Judy, of Joplin, and Steven G. Gurley and wife, Krista, of St. Charles, Mo.; sister, Anna Jean Dye, of Joplin; grandchildren, Jackson Gurley, Davis Gurley, Carl Bryce Gurley, Richard Craig Gurley and wife, Kate, Kristen Barker and husband, James, Nathan Gurley and wife, Leah, Michael Gurley, Nalynn Gurley, Jacqueline Gurley and Jacob Gurley; and great-grandchildren, Ayden, Lily, Jaiten, Kaylee, Madelynn, Devin and Ethan.
Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. in Community of Christ Church, 1212 Goetz Boulevard. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
