Aurora, Mo. —
Ossie Toft, age 96, of Aurora, Mo, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Aurora Nursing Center.
He was born July 24, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of the late Elmer C. and Ada Pearl (Hess) Toft.
Ossie graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia, and attended the University of Missouri.
On Feb. 15, 1953, he married Martha Wise in Aurora, at the First Baptist Church. Ossie moved to Aurora in 1939, and together with his father opened the Toft & Co. (Toft's) Department Store in downtown Aurora. His brother, Jim, joined the business and in 1969, Ossie and Martha maintained full ownership. He was active in civic organizations such as the Lion's Club, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Aurora Athletic and Band Booster Club and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Martha; one daughter, Mary Lou Toft, of Noel, Mo.; and one son, David Toft and his wife, Shelly, of Bentonville, Ark. His brother, James C. Toft; and granddaughter, Jordan Bottje, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the Southside Baptist Church with burial in the Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
