JOPLIN, Mo. —
Leo Buzz Thomas, age 89, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Buzz was born on July 3, 1922, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the son of the late Okel and Mary (Bailey) Thomas. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a technician for 36 years retiring in 1981. He has been a resident of Joplin for the past 22 years moving here from Kansas City, Mo.
He married Celestine Beard on Aug. 26, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo., and she survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Brandon and husband Ron, Georgetown, Texas; one grandson, Jack Mankin, Jr. and wife Allison; one great granddaughter, Zoey Mankin; and special friend Jack Mankin , Sr. and wife, Dawn.
It was his wish to be cremated with memorial service to be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
