JOPLIN, Mo. —
Marvin Eugene Jennings, Sr., age 83, of Joplin, passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, after a long illness surrounded by his family.
Born Jan. 31, 1929, in Wann, Okla., he had lived in Joplin the past 51 years, moving from Neosho. Marvin worked in the dairy business all of his working life, at Foremost for many years and retired in 1994, from Mid-Am. He was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1947 to 1950. He was a very humble, grateful and committed family man.
On July 1, 1950, he married Lena L. Burr at Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Gene Jennings and wife, Helen, of Joplin, Richard M. Jennings and wife, Mary, of Carthage, Mo., Chris Jennings and wife, Kim, of Joplin; a daughter, Marisa L. Fuller, of Joplin; five siblings, Faye Hanks, of Olive Hill, Tenn., Leroy Jennings, of Neosho, Mo., Eula Pendergraft, of Neosho, Doris Hoodenpyle, of Big Cabin, Okla., and Barbara Smith, of Vinita, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Shawn O. Fuller; and six siblings, John, Orville, Curtis, Lloyd, Agnes and Gertrude.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Wakefield officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery with Gene Jennings, Mike Jennings, Chris Jennings, Logan Grant, Richard Hilderbrand, Andy Bowers, Andy Pike and Ken Copeland serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
