Lester Roark

COLUMBUS, KS — Lester Roark, age 92, passed away at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Medicalodge of Columbus.

Mr. Roark was born July 24, 1920, in Columbus. His parents were Allen and Sarah (Lowrey) Roark. He had lived in Columbus all of his life.

He graduated from CCCHS with the Class of 1939. He was a veteran of World War II.  He owned and operated Roark Welding where he said he could fix anything but a broken heart.  

He was a member of the Galena Assembly of God church. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Columbus, and the Mirza Temple Shrine, Pittsburg, Kan. He was a retired member of the Pipefitters  Union No. 441.  He was Charter member of the Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and country music.

Lester was married to Conorma Jean Correll in November, 1939. She passed away in October, 1998.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Raymond, Chester and Earl; and three sisters,  Gladys, Clyda May and Dorothy Mishler.           

He is survived by two sons, Bill (and Linda) Roark, and Bob (and Pat) Roark, both of Columbus; one daughter, Connie (and James) McQuire, St. Paul, Kan.; one brother, Marion Roark, Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three special friends, Emma Lynn, Otto Hodge and Ned Devoe.

Masonic rites will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus. The family will remain there to receive friends until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus.
