Mary "Renie" Fuerst

BAXTER SPRINGS, KS —

Mary Lorene "Renie" Cramer Fuerst, age 82, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed away Nov. 22, 2012, at Quaker Hill Manor in Lowell, Kan., with her children by her side.

Renie was born in Clarinda, Iowa, Oct. 5, 1929, to Lowell and Gladys Thomas Cramer, graduating from Clarinda High School in 1947. After the lover of her life, Edmond C. "John" Fuerst Jr. returned from the Navy during World War II, they were married in Kansas City, Mo., in 1950. After living in Kansas City, Olathe, Colorado, and Lenox, Iowa, they moved their family to Baxter Springs in 1962, where they remained the rest of their lives. John preceded her in death in 1994.

During high school she was a member of the choir and girl's sextet group and during her senior prom she and several close girlfriends promised to start a 'Round Robin' letter. That promise was kept all these years and brought her so much joy. She loved planting large pots of red Geraniums, listening to the piano and saxophone, enjoying all types of music, reading, crossword puzzles, challenging us with Scrabble, joining Bridge clubs, bowling and adopting lucky stray cats, especially Siamese. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper all of her life, retiring from JCPenney's Credit Department where she made many close friends. We will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and best friend who always made us laugh with her quick wit.

She is survived by her daughter, Dana Kite and husband, Vince; her son, Edmond C. Feurst III; grandchildren, Jack and life partner, Jim, Christie and husband, Dantely, Cassie and Ali; step grandchildren, Jordan, Stacey and Adrienne; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Olivia, Carter and Lydia.

A private family gathering will celebrate Renie's life at 3 p.m. Dec. 2, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.

To all the staff at Quaker Hill Manor, thank you for your dedication, kindness and incredible care you gave our mother and for the many hugs we received... words cannot express how grateful we are to have known all of you.

Memorial donations may be made in our mother's name to the United Methodist Church, of Baxter Springs.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com
